The Best of The Travel Runner in 2021

And there it is. The first “official” year of The Travel Runner has come and gone. Although The Travel Runner’s one-year anniversary won’t come until May, I wanted to take the time to show some of the most popular posts from the past year.

Traveling and running seem like an odd pairing, but I think they’re a perfect match. What better way to explore the areas you’re visiting than jogging through its streets or surrounding trails. So, as I searched for information, I noticed there was a lack of coverage in this area. As a result, The Travel Runner was born and I’ve aimed to provide as much information to help others like me.

I’m appreciative of everyone that’s supported The Travel Runner, even if it’s only giving one of the articles a view. Everything helps.

So, without further ado, here are the top posts from The Travel Runner in 2021.

Travelers enjoyed reading When Will Travel Be Back To Normal? I Think Sooner, Rather Than Later during the summer and fall as a new jump in COVID cases led to another round of travel restrictions in various countries. In this post, I explained why I thought travel would recover much quicker than we were expecting and why it was already showing healthy signs of recovery.

Travel More

Spending Holi in Nepal was one of my favorite experiences, and writing about it was just as great

Travel More struck a chord for many travelers and non-travelers alike as I explain my view on travel. Why it’s important, how it’s affected my life, I expose it all. Travelers are a unique bunch, and it’s often difficult to explain why we enjoy doing what we do. But, I did my best to sum up why everyone should just travel more.

Ha Long Bay: A Short Holiday

Ha Long Bay provided me lifelong memories. That's why it's one of the best articles of The Travel Runner of 2021

Ha Long Bay: A Short Holiday was everyone’s favorite travel story as I detailed one of my favorite experiences ever—not just for travel. My visit to Ha Long Bay came as a surprise as I didn’t care to visit it when I arrived in Vietnam. But, boy, was I wrong and I’m glad I did.

UTMB 2021 Results

UTMB is always a classic event, and this year was no different

Everyone’s favorite race lived up to the hype, as did my post-race coverage in UTMB 2021 Results: King François & Queen Courtney Continue to Reign. The competitive field in this year’s UTMB was as high as the elevation gain, and the stars showed out. But, of course, François D’Haene and Courtney Dawaulter took home their respective crowns.

Favorite Memory of 2021

The Kiwi Killer 50k delivered as my favorite memory of 2021

My favorite memory of 2021 is the Kiwi Killer 50k that my friends and I in Phuket organized. Not an official event—and not even named until the ride home post-run—the Kiwi Killer 50k was a 52-kilometer run from Manik Dam to Nai Harn Beach in Phuket, Thailand.

It consisted of me, three friends, and my girlfriend. With no intention of competing, the run was a casual and light-hearted run where the main goal was to see who could get the most laughs. Oh, we wanted to make it to the end as well.

Sadly, around halfway through, my friend from New Zealand was feeling in the dumps and felt he couldn’t go on. I tried my best to persuade him to continue a bit further, but he was done. My last memory of him that day was him sitting on a steep incline on the dirt trail, looking utterly defeated.

Thus, we felt it was appropriate that the event should bear the Kiwi’s name in some way as a tribute.

And, to his chagrin, The Kiwi Killer was born.

With that said, I’m eager to hear from you. What were your favorite posts this year? What would you like to see more of?

Also, what was your favorite running or travel memory from the past year? Let me know in the comments.
